In the summer of 2016, my good friend and colleague John Madas was lamenting the fact that he could not find a suitable secular benediction to start a yearly tradition with his high school students.  Looking for a project, I asked if I could write one for him.  A week or so later I sent him the first draft of May the Longtime Sun.  Written to be accessible for both choirs and audiences, the piece is a humble setting of a lesser-known Celtic blessing.
