"Perhaps most importantly, kindness drives my teaching philosophy.  I care very deeply about the arts of music and music education, but more so for my students as individuals.  I actively seek to put my students at ease through humor, as well as animate them through what I hope is a contagious demonstration of energy.  I strive to be creative in the classroom, but also sensitive to students’ needs.  Importantly, my view of kindness in the classroom does not mean that I am always “nice,” but that I am serving my students’ needs as I see them.  That said, I do not determine the needs of my students in an academic vacuum, but rather by melding pedagogical best practice and personal teaching experience with interpersonal outreach and sincere care for each student in my charge.
